And the story continues.....
On
the 9 August we are passing the border Mozambique-Zimbabwe, very
worried expecting shortage of everything (fuel, food, water and
whatever else) and a messy place with unhappy people.
Whereas
it is not at all alike. Everything is available (though not always)
roads are in much better condition than those so far travelled,
services are there and the Country seems to be absolutely beautiful
yet wild and plenty of animals but especially friendly people all
over, supportive whenever necessary.

However,
the currency here is the USD.
From
now on everything cost not less than 1 USD...no coins, but candies
and eggs in place.
Mutare,
the first town after the border is a big settlement known for its
rich diamond mines......and also the beautiful highlands.
THE
ROCHELLE BOTANIC GARDEN
We
stop for the night very near the border, up in the mountain in a
pleasant botanical garden of the highlands...freeeeezing cold!!!

E'
Africa...ma che freddo. Le highlands sono bellissime, lo Zimbabwe già
si presenta bene......ma un pò meno per Ugo (vedi oltre).

for 20 USD each, with a discount the second time because after all
the receipt was not needed.
The
pictures have been taken with a hidden camera, from a hidden place,
by a hidden curious.
Mai
abbastanza....e dopo la prima multa per eccesso di velocità, Ugo
sfida ancora la Polizia stradale in Zimbabwe e in meno di 150 km si becca la seconda.
e finalmente ammette......andavo troppo veloce!!!

Prima
di affrontare il wilderness è bene temprarsi.
Ugo
while getting used to the tough bush life.
MANAPOOLS
...the
most incredible place so far in our trip. Here at an apparently
normal campsite we had several close encounters with our friends
(honey badger, elephant, buffalo, hippo and many others)
3
days of real African wilderness as anyone fond of this adventure
would wish to have.
Il
più bel posto al mondo...almeno fino ad oggi e per quanto riguarda
questo viaggio. Qui il vero sapore dell'Africa. Iene e tassi del
miele a cena ogni sera, di tanto in tanto elefanti con figli ed a
colazione spesso bufali. Gli ippopotami, si presentavano a serata
conclusa, ma anche loro hanno contribuito a completare il quadro di
un'Africa ancora stupenda ed eccitante.

Elephants in particular do not bother at all about the human being and continue using their spaces as usual
the
hippos in manapools...during a tour on kayak....
no
problem, they move and will stay away....
but
me I am not so convinced...

collection is prohibited!!
THE
VEHICLE WITH CHARACTER
Manapools
is a typical South African holiday spot.
Just
after our arrival we noticed a tall South African man, provided with
a big camera, moving in circle around us. Just like a shark. Getting
closer and closer he finally approached us, and kindly begged to take
pictures of our vehicle and in particular to our various
arrangements. His comment has been: “Oh, your vehicle has such a
character!”
We
do not know what exactly meant by that....but definitively this was
the first sign that made us realize how different we are in this part
of Africa.
