Come già informati all'epoca, dalla costa degli scheletri passiamo ai monti delle pitture....inseguendo il sole

Ci fermiamo in un campeggio dove, ci dicono vagano gli Elefanti del Deserto....tanta caccona fresca, ma nessuna bestia in vista....peccato.

Nel frattempo, continuiamo ad infrangere le regole.

So following the sun, we reach the Bradesberg stopping in a campsite where it is known there are the Desert Elephants....a lot of fresh dung but no animals are seen...pity!!!

and we continue to ignore the rules

DO NOT FEED WILD ANIMALS

Incidente alla bandiera, una evidente e sovversiva fuoriuscita di olio dalle taniche di riserva ha minacciato l'onore della bandiera. Prontamente i nostri eroi sono intervenuti per rimediare al grave attentato mediante un approfondito lavaggio!!!

Le Bradesberg, dette anche montagne di fuoco, sono disseminate di pitture rupestri, lasciate da gente che abitava nel posto da 2 a 5 mila anni fa. Cacciatori raccoglitori che seguono la selvaggina durante la stagione secca e poi diventano pastori e inseguono acqua e pascolo...come vedremo anche nella zona delle incisioni rupestri.

The bradesberg, also called fire mountains, are plenty of rock paintings left by people living in the area from 2 to 5 thousand years ago. These were hunter and gatherers and were following the wild animals in the valleys during the dry season.

Di queste pitture la più famosa è quella detta “white lady” che in realtà non è che la raffigurazione di uno shamano, ma il fatto di averla nominata “white lady” ha attirato sufficientemente l'attenzione perchè questi importanti pezzi di storia umana venissero finalmente preservati.

The most famous one is the one named “white lady” which attracted the attention of the experts and finally ensured protection to the sites witnessing the history of the people of the area.

ROCK ENGRAVINGS

Vale altrettanto per le incisioni rupestri, forse ancora più antiche, che raffigurano vari animali selvatici ed anche pinguini e foche. Queste ultime probabilmente incontrati durante i viaggi verso la costa.

Moving toward another site some few hundreds km are the rock engravings, more or less of the same date.

Here the most interesting stones were those reporting the map of the area showing especially the water points. Mandrici will be pleased to know there were people able to draw maps at that time!

Interessante più che mai un paio di pietroni. In uno la raffigurazione di una mappa (che abbiamo fotografato pensando al Prof. Mandrici), ed una che rappresenta un'insieme di tracce e segni di presenza di animali, una sorta di guida naturalistica, non proprio tascabile.

Another interesting one is a stone engraved with the signs of presence (foot prints) of the various species occurring in the area. Almost a Natural Guide for the site, not really handy and portable, however something.

Close by are also other sites of interest telling the past of this region. Here a petriefied forest where large conifers have been flooded and with some year turned into stone.

Sempre nelle vicinanze altri siti di interesse che raccontano la storia del passato. La forest pietrificata costituita da tronchi di conifere probabilmente trascinati dalle inondazioni fino al punto in cui vengono ritrovate del tutto pietrificate.

E per finire la nostra visita etnico culturale visitiamo un Museo vivente, dove il ragionier Rossi e la Signorina Bianchi arrivano al mattino presto, si denudano, si sporcano di polvere rossa, e cominciano la loro piece teatrale inscenando la vita dei loro avi.

Ci sono bambini (rigorosamente maschietti) che gironzolano felicemente biotti, il nonno della Signorina Bianchi, la Zia e la Cugina. Tutti intenti in una delle tante faccende che doveva essere il quotidiano di un paio di generazioni fa.

Interessante il tutto, se non altro, bravi attori.

And to complete our cultural and ethnographic tour, we decide to visit a Living Museum. Here Mr Kalonzo e Mrs Urio, comes very early in the morning, undress and cover themselves with a red mud ready to start their theatre piece. There are also small naked kids (only little boys), the auntie of Mrs Urio, her cousin and the old uncle. Very good actors in pretending to live the way how their ancestors (not more than two generations) were living.

Just a little observation on the way.....

...despite all this culture and historic back ground, it looks like the local people in Namibia do not have an easy life.

Houses are made with whatever found around....not really reflecting the ancient tradition rather the present economic conditions.

Piccola osservazione lungo il percorso....

malgrado la ricchezza in cultura e storia del passato le abitazione dei locali sono il risultato dell'attuale condizione economica e non rappresentano certo le tradizionali abitazioni...c'è qualche cosa che non funziona....

Everything started in a moon landscape

returning from Sousses Vleij we spent another night at Swakopmund moving to the Skeleton Coast the day after.

from one side the grey ocean and on the other side the grey desert.

It is obvious that along the skeleton coast shipwreck are common....here is an example.

And also a poor sailor man was found still trying to recover his ship... (!!!)

Cadaveri di imbarcazioni, non soltanto di animali, si trovano lungo la skeleton coast....

CAPE CROSS

The largest colony of fur-seals in Namibia is here, waiting for our arrival and the one of the other many tourists. The smell of guano is really intense and most people cannot stand it, but...how to say, we are somehow used to such aroma and we stay long to observe one by one these stinky, fat and lazy things.

Le foche del Capo.....e la loro intensa puzza ci aspettano tutte a Cape Cross. Mollemente appoggiate alla sabbia o sugli scogli dei quali seguono alla perfezione ogni curva ed ogni spigolo avvolgendoli con il loro grasso.

Ci si presentano pigramente abbandonate ad un sonno più o meno profondo. Per lo più sono femmine, disturbate soltanto dai piccoli che si attaccano alla mammella sbagliata o di madri che alla ricerca del loro piccolo, si spostano da un un punto all'altro calpestando il tappeto di compari foche.

Ovunque da qui in avanti lungo la spiaggia si trovano le tracce di sciacalli ma soprattutto quelle della iena bruna.

Degli sciacalli riusciamo anche a vederne qualcuno che ci viene indiscrenatamente vicino, ma la iena bruna ci gabba, lascia le sue impronte ovunque, ma non si fa vedere (tranne da Ugo, forse, mentre espleta......)

The skeleton coast seems the best place in the world for the loneliness, though intriguing for its harshness and the hidden living beings.

Malgrado il freddo, la nebbia, un'aspetto apparentemente inospitale la Skeleton coast è di grandissima ispirazione. Sembra un posto desolato ma è ricco di vita nascosta.

Questo il desolato campeggio di Mile 108, di cui, qualche giorno fa vi abbiamo fatto avere già alcune immagini.

The Campsite at Mile 108, a bit desolating place, but with its interesting aspects as told you some days ago.

Sebbene ci si possa aspettare di peggio, la strada lungo la Skeleton Coast è ben messa fino a Cape Cross, poi si trasforma in un qualche cosa dal sapore più avventuroso...poi è Parco e poi è il nulla (almeno per noi che oltre non ci andiamo).

The road not too bad until Cape Cross, than is likely to become more adventure type, but this we do not know, since we left the coast before.

e lungo il percorso si incontrano anche villaggi pretenziosi come quelli di Henties Bay, where they try their best to make the whole colourful and joyful......

Abbandonata la costa ci buttiamo verso l'interno nel magnifico Damaraland, con interessanti incontri, non solo animaleschi

This is a typical gem of salt....costing us 100 Namibian Dollars melted within 2 days......sawa, good for the guy who sold it to us.

Ahi ahi ahi, NO ALPITOUR ma non troppo grave, questa volta...contenti lo stesso di aver dato un piccolo contributo ai locali veramente locali.
