RESUME 3 ....ZIMBABWE THE LAST, REALLY

Ok, left Manapools and its wilderness we moved along a dirt, but quite interesting road, toward Karibe Lake, passing through the Sanyati river. Here some people is living out of the small quantity of gold that are able to find in the sands of the riverbed.

Lake Karibe: the huge dam built in the 50s is something incredible, especially thinking to the large area of savannah habitat that has been submerged....(about 10 thousands square km).
Islands are created by the top of the mountains along the Zambezi escarpment and some of them named after those animals that have not realized in time what was happening (e.g. Zebra island).

Gnamgnam or Nyamnyam is the creature living in this lake since it has been created.

karibe CAMP SITE, with visits of hippo and elephants too....as well as the porcupine, but he did not left us any picture.

HWANGE NATIONAL PARK

19 Agosto 2011

From here onward, the sign boards gives clear indication. The expectation to observe numbers and numbers of wild dogs increases...but no one is seen along the 4 days we remain in the park.

Hwange National Park where the honey badgers have really tried hard to make our life difficult together with the many elephants that never left us alone.

.....and also very vicious beasts!!!

The park has beautiful “platform” (observation points) in front of pans where people is used to stay for entire days.
Some of this place can be used as a private campsite. Many are the South Africans that spend their holidays camping inside a platform.
All is overbooked, for us no chance!
Anyway the cost is quite high (from 150 to 250 USD per site per night).

In Hwange we travel around the park as everybody. Getting on the track early in the morning, moving from one platform to the other and observing the various beasts!

An herd of Buffalos, about 700 in number, counted one by one....

There is very high concentration of elephants, followed by Impala, Greater Kudu and than the small little grass-eater (grysbok??, oribi?? steinbuck??).

We do as everybody, but we maintain our peculiarities.

Despite the low density of predators, we have been lucky to observe a pack of lions (8 between adult female and youngsters) on a fresh kill of a giraffe.

All in all, elephants, elephants and elephants everywhere and anytime! This is what I am sure Silvia would be especially pleased of!

VICTORIA FALLS

23 Agosto 2011
Victoria Falls!!!

What to say...just beautiful and fantastic.....

We spent some day at home of friends of ours (Claudio, Mariolina, Alberto, Ray and the rest of the family included Silvestro and the 18 elephants).
No comments...though just a great thank to the whole Deleo family for their warm and nice care of us!!

DAMARALAND...BACK TO THE SUN!!

DAMARALAND

Back to the sun and the hot temperature after only 37 Km inside from the skeleton coast......!!!!

Bastano 37 Km e torniamo alla calura Africana!

joto kabisa!!!

This last one is the bushman running away from something......maybe us, because of our BIG PUZZA!!

Today a very relaxing stop at the foothills of the Bradensberg. Beside the breakfast with the hornbills and friends, than a walk on the mountains to admire the rock paintings dated 5000 years,

than the rest of the day was just meeting Carlos, resting and meditating

In all this, following is another update of the past days
